Pink peppercorns whole

Pink peppercorns are a bit of an outsider amongst pepper.
It is not really family of the real pepper but berries of an exotic climber "Schinus Molle". Because of the pink / red colour, the berries are often mixed with the three other real types of pepper (green, black and white) to make the colourful "four seasons pepper".  Red corns of the real pepper (Piper Nigrum) only occur when the berries are very ripe but when washed and dried, the skin will come off and it is not economical to dry in red form. Therefore the pink (pepper) corns are a good substitute in dried four seasons pepper.

Pink berries have a peculiar sweet and pungent taste.
