ISO14001:2004
The ISO 14001 standard states how the environmental management system must be set up, implemented, maintained and improved. The audits of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are carried out together, as the standards are coordinated with one another. The most important topics in an environmental management system are:
-
Drawing up an environmental policy
-
Recording environmental aspects and effects
-
Drawing up environmental objectives
-
Monitoring continual improvement of environmental performance
Meaning of ISO14001
ISO14001 is the globally accepted standard containing criteria for an environmental management system. The standard specifies the requirements for an environmental management system, in order to enable an organisation to develop and implement a policy and objectives, taking account of the legal requirements and information on important environmental aspects. The overall aim of this international standard is to support environmental protection and prevent environmental pollution, in harmony with socio-economic needs.
Verstegen’s choice
Verstegen Spices & Sauces B.V. chose the ISO14001 standard for controlling the environmental effects of its operations. Environmental management safeguards and improves the environmental performance of our company and we are proud of that!
Why?
Environmental management according to the ISO14001 standard controls and reduces the environmental effects (and with this directly the environmental risks) of Verstegen’s business operations
We like to distinguish ourselves from the competition by showing a concern for the environment. In this way, we optimise the relationship with local residents and the government. In short, with an ISO14001 system, we send out a signal to our surroundings that we really take the environment seriously.
ISO14001 also leads directly to cost savings and avoids possible future (legal) costs.
