ISO9001
Content of ISO series
ISO prescribes which processes within a company should be described. These processes must be key to the structure and recording of the quality system.
On 15 November 2008, the revised ISO 9001 standard was published. The revised ISO 9001:2008 replaced the 2000 version of the standard. The purpose of ISO 9001:2008 is to clarify criteria of the standard and achieve better coordination with ISO 14001.
ISO 9001 is geared towards enabling the general, relevant processes in organisations to proceed in a controlled way, from purchasing and production to sales and service. ISO 9001 is an international standard issued by the International Standardization Organisation, with the aim of standardizing international requirements for quality systems and making it possible to measure and check them. ISO 9001 is therefore applicable for any type of organisation. The most important topics are:
- Quality objectives
- Management evaluation and internal audits
- Drafting corrective and preventative measures
- Customer satisfaction
- Applying legislation and regulations
Three starting points within ISO9001
- Describe existing business processes
- Record all procedures simply, comprehensibly and in writing
- Avoid unnecessary costs
ISO in comparison with HACCP
ISO is a tool for establishing whether or not the quality system is sufficiently safeguarded. ISO says what needs to be done, but not how. HACCP, on the other hand, describes how it must be done.
